As with other youth organizations, involvement on the part
of the parents is integral to our success, not just in traveling
to away races or dropping off and collecting their athletes
after training, but also by volunteering their time to help us
pull off the many events we put on over the course of the
season. In addition to several fundraising efforts, each year
the Club also sponsors an Age Class race in January and the
Rocky Mountain J4 Junior Olympic Qualifier (the Prater
Memorial Cup) in February. During the Prater, athletes
travel to Crested Butte from across the Rocky Mountain
Division to compete in one of the strongest, most interactive
events of the season, with athletes competing not only on
the ski hill, but also in a nation team contest where they get
to know their opponents from other ski clubs and vie for
prizes ranging from jackets to ski poles to brand new skis!
To ensure that the competitions go off without a hitch, the
number of volunteer hours we require is colossal. Parents
who come to help for any event are reimbursed their work
deposits at the end of the season at a rate of $10.00 per hour
based on the amount of time each family invests.
Although we make every effort to employ parents and other members over outside help for home
races, without volunteers from the community we would never be able to put on these events. If
you wish to help out, please contact the Club at 970-349-2996.
Friends of the ski racing community, we thank you so much for your contributions; your time is
our treasure!
